Last week I asked a simple question: Is the #OpenToWork frame actually helpful?
The community came through. Here’s the summary:
1. Context matters. Public frames can boost visibility for early and mid-career searches. Senior leaders often get better results using the private setting for recruiters only — or skipping the frame entirely and leaning on thought leadership and warm intros instead.
2. Brand beats the banner. Clear positioning, visible achievements, and useful posts drove more quality conversations than the frame itself. The frame signals availability; your profile signals worth.
3. Test and iterate. Treat #OpenToWork as an experiment. Run it for two weeks, track reply and conversion quality, then compare without it. Be mindful of spam and scams. A manual Friday-off/Monday-on refresh may help reset the signal.
I turned off my #OpenToWork frame last Friday. I have not received a single spam comment or DM since.
Make of that what you will.
