Fake Recruiter Red Flags on LinkedIn

Lately on LinkedIn:

"Hi, you would be a great fit for a job I’m filling. Send me your resume."
Title: "HR and executive recruiting for Fortune 500 companies"
Profile: 6 connections, few posts, stock photo

The fake recruiter bot problem is real — and growing.

In just two weeks, I had dozens of fake accounts comment on old posts or DM me with vague job offers. If you’re job hunting, it’s a whole second job just filtering the noise.

A few red flags to watch for:

  • Generic intros that don’t mention your name or role
  • Reposts with boilerplate praise copied to multiple job seekers
  • No real work history or mutual connections
  • Fewer than 10 actual connections
  • Suspicious locations like "United States Minor Outlying Islands"
  • Comments on old posts instead of your recent activity
  • Always asking you to engage or send a resume off-platform

You’re not alone if you’re seeing this. Stay sharp, protect your info, and don’t hesitate to report them. LinkedIn does run a scrubber — those fake reposts and comments tend to disappear within a day or two. More will follow.

How are you filtering the noise? Drop your tips below.
