Every day, at least one cold InMail promises: "We help executives land VP and C-level roles by providing access to exclusive, unposted opportunities."
Maybe that’s true. But the sheer volume of "GUARANTEED PROGRAM to get you offers within 30/60/90 days!" pitches — for only $x,000 — has a modern snake oil salesman energy to it.
I was curious, so I took a call with one of these shops. Product management focused, so I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Almost an hour in, they finally revealed their buy-in price.
$12,000.
The cheapest options I’ve seen are around $3,000. Some are recurring monthly fees. Some are all upfront.
The only people who can realistically afford these services are the already-employed, the laid off with substantial severance, or people without significant living expenses. For someone who can’t cover basic monthly costs? Sorry — a roof and food come first.
Would I like help navigating this job search? Absolutely. But not at that price, and not when the ROI is unverifiable before you pay.
If you’re getting these InMails, you’re not alone. The pitch sounds compelling when you’re months into a search and feeling the pressure. That’s exactly why they work — and why it’s worth being skeptical.
