I want to give a shout-out to GlobalGiving for this breath of fresh air:
"Thank you again for applying for the VP of Product position at GlobalGiving. We know that you could choose to take your talents anywhere, so it means the world that you’ve considered the possibility of a career with us.
Since some time has passed since you applied, we wanted to provide you with a status update. We receive a number of applications and give each one due consideration; as a result, processing them all can take some time, and we haven’t gotten to yours just yet.
We can’t wait to review your materials! Whether this role is a good fit for you or not, we’ll let you know as soon as possible."
Even if this opportunity passes me by — even if this was auto-generated — this is the most helpful and thoughtful status email I’ve received while waiting to hear back from potential employers.
It really isn’t that much effort to check in with applicants. To not ghost someone who is interested in your organization. The jobs market is difficult right now. More companies should follow this lead and bring some humanity back to the process.
