Over four months into this search, here’s what I would tell myself on Day 1:
Network. Network. Network.
Most traction has come from conversations — not applications. Reconnect with old colleagues. Be direct, specific, and generous. This is where doors open.
Fit over volume.
Early on I was applying to anything remotely relevant. I’ve since built a list of mission-aligned companies — tiered, tracked, and reviewed regularly. Better signal. Less noise.
Your LinkedIn profile matters more than you think.
Headline. Skills. Highlights. Interested companies. Better reach, more credible recruiter leads, and warmer intros.
Every resume gets tailored — especially the top.
It takes 10 minutes to match your title, header, and skills to the job description. And it always improves your odds.
Use AI as a strategy partner.
Claude and ChatGPT now help me prioritize, score role fit, prep targeted outreach, and do company research. Not magic — but powerful when used with intent.
Find your people.
Peer support communities have been my anchor points — weekly check-ins, warm accountability, and reminders that I’m not alone in this.
Don’t just search on LinkedIn.
Google Jobs and Wellfound surface roles that LinkedIn misses. Cast the net wider.
Still in the game. Just smarter than I was.
